BEIJING SUBWAYS FOR THE HOMELESS



Did you ever sit around and think what happens when subway cars are not longer used because the system upgrades the line? In Beijing at least, the ones used before the Beijing Olympics have been sent to Sichuan and turned into winter shelters. Ten DK-16 trains, each with six cars, are now in Guangyuan, a city north of Sichuan's capital Chengdu. Pretty crazy. Last time I heard of any city doing something like this was when NY turned the old Red Birds into reefs...Pretty interesting, none the less. It is nice to see them finally doing something for the tens of thousands of people who are now homeless due to the earthquake. They have said it will house 10,000 people. They should put some in downtown Manhattan...
