Add J. Alvo to your myspace friends! J. Alvo is a Brooklyn-based start-up company made by Jackie Alvo from New York City. Each piece is very unique and with each purchase you get a piece of art, rather than just a piece of clothes. I personally really like the black peel sweater.
Now that the minimalist style is at its height, with Jil Sander, Giorgio Armani and Helmut Lang being very popular and successful, she has taken it to another level and made simple-yet-very different ready-to-wear womens' wear. Her clothes are made with very sharp lines and careful cuts, creating basic but extremely elegant silhouettes in high quality and seemingly high-tech fabrics. Obviously, her favorite 'colors' are black and white. She will undoubtedly be compared to Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto for her intellectual designs and Helmut Lang for her black and white "techy" clothes. Expect to see a lot more coming from here. And, as always, every piece is "always vegan" and always hand made. My personal pick for startup designer of the year. :)
