Update: Normal service has resumed for the Metro after a woman fell on the tracks at a downtown subway station, but there are long delays.
We now know a 68 year old woman fell on the tracks at the Gallery Place station on the red line. It does not appear the woman was hit by the train but the woman has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Gallery Place and Metro Center stations were closed for nearly an hour while authorities investigated.
Red-line trains turned around at Judiciary Square and Farragut North.
Metro spokeswoman Candace Smith says it's not clear how the woman ended up on the tracks.
Metro is advising passengers to stand at least two feet away from the platform edge for their safety.
